Abstract. The focus lays on multi-storey constructions from the interwar time in Eastern and Mediterranean Europe. These building may need upgrading interventions. Such ones belong in Italy either to the Milanese Novecento movement, or to Italian rationalism, the main representative of which was Giuseppe Terragni. How does one to approach rationalist buildings and what they mean? Daniel Libeskind seems to have seen a way.
